Skills Review

The Discover Scuba Diving experience is REAL diving, therefore we will learn some REAL diving skills during the session. Many of these you can review now on Youtube (have a look, you can see how easy it all is) but nothing beats having them briefed then demonstrated to you by one of our PADI Professionals and then completing them yourself with any minor errors corrected.

Before anything though you will receive a knowledge development session/briefing that will help maintain the safety of the session, nothing heavy but important stuff never-the-less.

These are the skills you will complete.

Breathing Underwater You will learn the correct technique for underwater breathing to ensure your comfort and safety
Regulator Clearing Here you learn two techniques for removing small amounts of water that may enter your regulator when you laugh or smile as you learn you can be a fish
Regulator recovery They say that the underwater world is jaw dropping (and it is, see our club photos). If you drop your regulator you need to be able to find it by feel. We show you how to do it.
Mask Clearing Your mask moulds itself to your face contours by using a very soft silicon skirt. Again when you laugh this can come away and let a slight drop of water in. You learn how to remove it simply with the breath in your lungs so you can continue your dive.
Equalization techniques Here comes the physics bit. Just like you feel the pressure changes on a plane journey (particularly take off and landing) we experience the same ascending and descending in water. The good thing is there are a couple of very simple techniques you will master that mean it is a pain free and safe experience. We all use these every time we go diving.
Inflate and deflate a BCD at the surface As you will have seen from the equipment review we have a device to inflate the BCD (so we float or rise) and deflate it (do we descend). It only uses two buttons but we show you how it is done.

You do need to complete a medical form to ensure you are fit for diving. Diving can never be completely risk free and this medical form will help us identify any issues that may pre-dispose you to potential issues that may affect your safety. Please ensure you answer fully and truthfully. If any question is answered YES then it is no great drama, you just need medical clearance before we get i the water. The medical form can be found at the downloads section HERE. Complete it and then let us know if any answers are a YES and we will contact you with instructions. Remember, this is about your safety be completely honest, regardless of how minor or historic any of the problems may seem to be to you.
