Shoalstone Brixham
The next car park up from Breakwater Beach towards Berry Head is the starting point for this dive site. You know you are at the right place as there is an open air swimming pool just below the parking area
Follow the steps down to the rocky
entry point, making sure you are diving at the right state of the tide as
there is a wicked current that carries you out to sea on the ebb so always dive on an incoming or high tide. (Check tide times here
)
This is an excellent dive with deeper depths available from the shore as you dive over a series of underwater valleys with a profusion of dead mens fingers, crabs, scallops and other life populating the seabed. The visibility can be excellent and this makes a special night dive.
There are loads of gullies and small cliff faces here and it makes for a really interesting area to dive whilst there is loads on the shore by the entry point to keep non diving partners and kids busy.
With careful dive planning and navigation this is a nice change from Breakwater Beach. Shore cover and use of an SMB is a clear advantage when diving this for the first time.
